WILDCAT WORD
February 2, 2024
From Dr. Nolan
Did you know there are many different ways to get involved at our school?
Research has proven that students do better when their parents/ guardians are involved both at
home and at school. Here are several ways to get involved and support your child:
Cafecito: a weekly Wednesday morning coffee for families to socialize and learn more about our school, community resources, and staff. Cafecito takes place at 8:30 am in the Family Center at West Marin School. Please contact Glenda Mejia, glenda.mejia@shorelineunified.org, 415-663-8101 with any questions.
Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA): the West Marin-Inverness School PTSA welcomes all families to become members. We are proud to say that our membership ship has grown tenfold in the past year. Joining and supporting the PTSA benefits the entire school community. The PTSA coordinates school-wide events (i.e Family Art Nights, Movie Nights, and our Spring Fling), room parents/ guardians, and efforts that pay for many activities such as the school garden, field trips, assemblies, and other programs. Contact president@wi-ptsa.org for questions and to be connected to our Membership Coordinator. PTSA meets monthly. However, there are no meetings in August or June.
School Site Council (SSC):. a school site council is a group of school staff
and parents working with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and budgets. The members of the site council are elected by their peers. For example, parents elect the parent representatives and school staff elect the school staff
representatives. These elections will take place in early September. SSC meets monthly. However, there are no meetings in December or June. For more information contact, Elizabeth Nolan, Principal, beth.nolan@shorelineunified.org
English Learners Advisory Council (ELAC): the purpose of the ELAC is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners and to inform the School Site Council (SSC) on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement. The ELAC also assists the school in coming up with ideas related to programs for English Learners and increasing student attendance. The meetings are conducted in Spanish with English translation as needed.
Our PTSA, Site Council and ELAC meetings are open to everyone. These community meetings are great opportunities to learn about school happenings and meet new people!
